Black Point Corporation is a privately owned entity of the heirs of P. Shaw Sprague, who use it to manage their common interests. The primary tie that binds the third, fourth, and fifth generations of the Sprague family is ownership of properties in Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough, Maine, assembled by Phineas Warren Sprague in the early years of the twentieth century.

A native of Malden, Massachusetts, P.W. Sprague was a successful coal and oil businessman who further developed his father’s company, C.H. Sprague & Son. He was attracted to Maine by both his business interests and his passion for the outdoors. He was an early participant in the creation of the Prouts Neck summer community and assembled various farmsteads in Scarborough and nearby Cape Elizabeth into an estate that totaled over 2,000 acres. He also engaged in various farming, horticultural, and sporting pursuits. His interest in conserving and preserving these properties for the benefit of his descendants led him to place the properties within The Sprague Corporation, formed in 1920 to hold and manage the properties in perpetuity. The mission of the family and Black Point Corporation (owner of The Sprague Corporation) is to continue to fulfill the original vision of P.W. as passed down by his son P. Shaw Sprague.
